
DePaul Drops Road Game at Butler

Javon Freeman-Liberty leads Blue Demons with game-high 26 points
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Each side put together a first half run as DePaul and Butler played even for a majority of the game, but a 9-1 flurry in the second half gave the Bulldogs enough of a margin to hold off the Blue Demons by the score of 68-58. Javon Freeman-Liberty led the Blue Demons with 26 points on Saturday afternoon at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Freeman-Liberty got the Blue Demons on the board with a three-pointer from the left corner three minutes into the action. Neither team started the afternoon quickly as Freeman-Liberty's long ranger gave the Blue Demons a 3-2 advantage.
After Butler answered with a bucket on their next possession, Romeo Weems kickstarted a 10-0 run with a rebound and putback. After a Freeman-Liberty found Nick Ongenda for an easy two off a no-look pass, the Bulldogs called a time out at the 12-minute mark.
A free throw by Freeman-Liberty pushed DePaul's lead to 18-6 before the Blue Demons went cold and Butler started a run to close the gap. In the midst of a 14-2 run, the Bulldogs tied the game at 24-24 with 2:59 left before taking a one-point advantage at 30-29 into the halftime break.
Freeman-Liberty scored the final nine points of the first half for DePaul to finish the opening frame with 14 points.
The two sides traded baskets to start the second half before Butler opened up a seven-point advantage less than seven minutes into the period on a three-pointer by Chuck Harris. Harris and Bryce Nze led Butler (6-10, 5-8 BIG EAST) with 22 points each.
DePaul couldn't get closer than six over the final 13 minutes as the deficit fluctuated between six and 10 points during the remainder of the afternoon.
Freeman-Liberty added a team-high eight rebounds while Weems chipped in eight points and Salnave scored seven with four assists.
