Blue Demons begin 2021 regular season on August 19 at Wish Field
CHICAGO - DePaul women's soccer head coach Michele O'Brien announced the Blue Demons' 2021 schedule on Monday afternoon. DePaul is set for a traditional fall schedule after the 2020 season was pushed back to an abbreviated slate that was played earlier this spring. The Blue Demons will play one exhibition game, eight non-conference matches and a ten-game BIG EAST schedule this fall.
"We're really looking forward to getting back to our regular fall schedule after such an unpredictable year," said O'Brien. "We've built out a challenging non-conference schedule to go along with the BIG EAST matchups that are always extremely competitive."
After the Blue Demons posted a 3-5 record during the 2020-21 season earlier this spring, O'Brien takes over as the new leader of the Blue Demons. In DePaul's last full season, the 2019 campaign, the Blue Demons posted an 8-8-3 record with a 5-3-1 mark within BIG EAST play.
The Blue Demons will begin action with an exhibition match versus Wisconsin on Aug. 12 at Wish Field. O'Brien will make her head coaching debut one week later versus Iowa. The season opener is set for Thursday, Aug. 19 at Wish Field in Lincoln Park. The Hawkeyes and Blue Demons will match up for the first time since 2011.
DePaul continues the non-conference slate with a trip to take on Oakland on Aug. 26 before returning to Chicago to take on regional rival UIC on Aug. 29. DePaul will then hit the road to face Milwaukee on Sept. 2 and Big Ten opponent Michigan on Sept. 5.
On Sept. 9, the Blue Demons will host local foe Loyola at Wish Field. The Blue Demons will be searching for its third straight win versus the Ramblers. Before the BIG EAST slate begins, DePaul will wrap up the non-conference schedule with matches on the road against Northwestern on Sept. 12 and in Lincoln Park versus Eastern Illinois on Sept. 18.
After the Blue Demons played in the BIG EAST's Midwest Division during the 2020-21 season, DePaul will return to the regular conference structure for the 2021 season. The Blue Demons will take on schools from the across the conference as part as the traditional conference slate of matchups.
"With getting back to the full set of conference games, it'll be really exciting to have our group take on a larger group of our conference opponents," said O'Brien.
The Blue Demons begin the BIG EAST schedule with a trip to take on St. John's on Sept. 26 and Georgetown on Sept. 30. Georgetown posted a 7-0-1 in conference play last season, winning the east division and advancing to the round of 16 during the NCAA Tournament.
After the quick road trip to start the conference schedule, the Blue Demons will host Villanova on Oct. 3 at Wish Field. DePaul will look to avenge a 1-0 loss against the Wildcats in the first round of the BIG EAST Championship back in 2019.
On Oct. 7, DePaul will head to Seton Hall before hosting Connecticut on Oct. 10 and Xavier on Oct. 14. The Blue Demons will then travel to Indianapolis to take on Butler on Oct. 17 before hosting back-to-back home matches versus Creighton on Oct. 21 and Providence on Oct. 24. DePaul wraps up the regular season with a trip north to Marquette on Oct. 28.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, the BIG EAST Championship will feature three rounds of matches running from Oct. 31 until Nov. 7.
