Haiser, da Silva net goals as Blue Demons pick up a point
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer jumped out to a two-goal lead inside the first 17 minutes, but Georgetown rallied with a pair of second-half goals as the teams played to a 2-2 draw Wednesday afternoon at Wish Field at Cacciatore Stadium.
Shayna da Silva and freshman Katelyn Haiser found the back of the net for the Blue Demons (4-4-6, 1-2-3 BIG EAST), with Haiser adding an assist. Mason Hillery made three saves in 90 minutes in goal.
How It Happened
In the seventh minute, Haiser made a run down the far side, stopped in her tracks and sent a cross right in front of goal to an approaching da Silva. The senior hit a left-footed strike into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
About 10 minutes later, the Blue Demons doubled their advantage. Mia Veldman settled a ball in the midfield and played it on to Carolina Capizzi, who sent it into the box for a dashing Haiser. The freshman chased it down and finished from a sharp angle past the Hoyas keeper to make it 2-0.
Shots were even at 5-5 after 45 minutes, and DePaul held Georgetown without a shot on goal in the first half.
The Hoyas opened the second half on the front foot and found a window in the 60th minute. Georgetown won the ball back in DePaul's attacking third and sent it long for Aliza Mannon, who beat the back line and slotted a shot inside the far post to trim the lead to 2-1.
Georgetown leveled the match in the 81st minute when Sara Chrnelich scored off an assist from Caroline Spengler.
DePaul pushed for a go-ahead goal late. In the 86th minute, Haiser drew a free kick just outside the box and served it in for Capizzi, whose header was deflected out by the Hoyas keeper for DePaul's first corner of the match. In the 88th minute, Dory Latenser's shot from six yards out hit the woodwork, the Blue Demons' final chance in a 2-2 draw.
