DePaul kicks off the regular season on August 26 versus Loyola Chicago
CHICAGO - DePaul men's soccer head coach Mark Plotkin announced the team's 2021 schedule on Wednesday morning. The Blue Demons' schedule includes seven non-conference matchups and a 10-game BIG EAST conference slate. DePaul will also play three exhibition matches to ramp up to the beginning of the regular season which begins on Thursday, Aug. 26 with the home opener versus Loyola Chicago.
DePaul's 2021 campaign will be a return to normal after a shortened 2020 season that was pushed to earlier this spring. DePaul returns to action this August with a slate of three exhibition games, starting with a home matchup with Wisconsin-Milwaukee at Wish Field on Aug. 13. DePaul will then head to Indiana University to face the Hoosiers on Aug. 18 before a final home exhibition versus Wheaton on Aug. 21.
The 2021 campaign will officially kick off on Aug. 26 against Red-Line Rivalry foe, Loyola Chicago. The Blue Demons and Ramblers fought to a 0-0 tie back in February in Rockford. This time, the storied rivalry will rightfully return to the city of Chicago.
After the opener, the Blue Demons will take on a slew of non-conference opponents in September. DePaul will host St. Thomas, a new member of the Division I Summit League, on Sept. 2. The Blue Demons will then head north to Madison, Wis. to face the Wisconsin Badgers on Sept. 5.
DePaul will then take on a pair of in-state competitors, facing Bradley on the road on Sept. 10 and hosting UIC on Sept. 15. Next, Oakland will visit Wish Field on Sept. 18 before the Blue Demons kick off the BIG EAST schedule by hosting Connecticut on Sept. 25. The matchup with the Huskies will be the first since 2011.
The Blue Demons will squeeze in a final non-conference matchup after the conference opener. DePaul will head north to Evanston to take on Northwestern on Sept. 29. DePaul holds a 11-15-2 record versus Northwestern all-time and the teams last battled to a 1-1 draw in 2018.
Once October rolls around, DePaul will be entrenched in the bulk of its BIG EAST schedule. The Blue Demons hit the road to face Georgetown on Oct. 2, taking on the Hoyas for the first time since a 0-0 tie at Wish Field back in 2019 when Georgetown was ranked no. 5 in the nation. The Hoyas assembled a 7-0-2 conference record earlier this spring, winning the East Division and advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
DePaul will then host Creighton on Oct. 6. The Blue Demons spoiled the Bluejays' last visit to Wish Field, claiming a 2-1 win back in March. Following the matchup versus the Bluejays, DePaul will head to Providence on Oct. 9 before hosting Seton Hall on Oct. 13.
DePaul will hit the road for back-to-back road contests at Marquette on Oct. 16 and Villanova on Oct. 20. The Blue Demons will then return to Wish Field to host Butler on Oct. 23 and St. John's on Oct. 30. For the season finale, DePaul will take on Xavier in Cincinnati on Nov. 3. The last time the Blue Demons took on the Musketeers on the road, DePaul claimed an overtime win on a game-winning goal by Jacob Huth.Â
Following the conclusion of the regular season, the BIG EAST will hold the BIG EAST Championship from Nov. 6 to Nov. 14.
