DePaul set to face Marshall, Ball State and Wright State
CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball hits the road for its second weekend of non-conference competition with a trip to Dayton, Ohio for the Tru by Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational. The Blue Demons are set to face Marshall, Ball State and tournament hosts Wright State.
DePaul will open weekend action on Friday, Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. CT against the Thundering Herd before facing the Cardinals on Saturday at 9 a.m. The Blue Demons and Raiders will face off in the tournament finale at 6 p.m. with action streamed on ESPN+.

Last Time Out
- The Blue Demons opened the 2021 fall slate at the CEFCU Invitational in Peoria, Ill. Despite dropping the opening match 3-1 to SEMO, DePaul rebounded to sweep Central Michigan and Bradley on Saturday to go 2-1 in the inaugural weekend.
- In the pair of sweeps, DePaul used a balanced offensive attack led by sophomore Jill Pressly. The outside hitter notched 43 kills on the weekend to lead the BIG EAST while recording three double-doubles.
- Donna Brown was a force to be reckoned with in the middle, averaging 2.90 kills per set at a .333 clip and recording nine blocks.
- Sophomore libero Rachel Krasowski picked up a career-high 38 digs against SEMO and wrapped up the weekend with an average of 7.30 per set to rank third in the nation after opening weekend.
- Pressly and Krasowski were both named to the CEFCU Invitational All-Tournament team.
- All three Blue Demon freshmen played a great role in opening weekend led by setter Ashley Cudiamat who tallied a pair of double-doubles and Aly Kindelberger who led the team with 12 blocks. Defensive specialist Avery Horejsi was a critical reserve, with a 10-0 serving run to close out set three of DePaul's victory over Central Michigan.
Scouting the Competition
- MARSHALL - The Thundering Herd went 2-1 at the Marshall Invitational to open the 2021 season including wins over Austin Peay State and Miami. Marshall held opponents to .171 hitting on opening weekend and totaled 43 blocks as a squad. Graduate middle blocker Destiny Leon was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week with 23 blocks on opening weekend. The Thundering Herd went 10-5 in the spring and made it to the C-USA tournament. Outside hitter Ciara Debell, All-C-USA First Team selection leads the way in kills with 3.62 per set.
- BALL STATE - The Cardinals went 4-0 in the opening weekend of competition at the Green Bay Tournament with notable wins over Northern Iowa and North Dakota State. Ball State played a conference only MAC schedule in the spring and tallied a 9-12 record. Graduate outside hitter Jaclyn Bulmahn leads the way with 40 kills on opening weekend while two other Cardinals notched 30 or more through four matches.
- WRIGHT STATE - The host Raiders opened the season with a 2-1 mark at the Spartan Invitational including a dramatic 3-2 win over Michigan State. The 2020 Horizion League champs went 17-2 in the spring season and won an NCAA Tournament matchup against Samford before being eliminated by eventual runner-ups, Texas. Junior outside Megan Alders led the way on opening weekend with 40 kills including a career-high 22 against MSU to earn Horizon League Player of the Week.
Series Stuff
- Friday afternoon's matchup with mark the first all-time meeting between the Thundering Herd and the Blue Demons.
- Ball State leads the all-time series 7-4 over DePaul and has won the last three meetings with the last coming in 2017.
- DePaul and Wright State will meet for the 9th time on Saturday evening. The all-time series remains tied 4-4 with the last meeting landing with Wright State, 3-1, in 2010.
Krasowski, Pressly Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors
- After leading the Blue Demons to a 2-1 record on opening weekend, sophomores Rachel Krasowski and Jill Pressly were honored by the conference office.
- Krasowski earned Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career while Pressly landed on the weekly honor roll for the third time in two seasons.
- Krasowski extended her double-digit dig streak to 13 consecutive starts while Pressly racked up three double-doubles to move to six in her career.
- Krasowski's 73 digs over three matches ranks third in the nation and first in the conference while Pressly's 43 kills lead the BIG EAST.
Looking Back
- In the abbreviated 2020 season played in the spring of 2021, DePaul posted a 6-5 overall record including a 3-5 BIG EAST divisional mark.
- The Blue Demons posted their first winning season since 2015 and went 3-0 in non-conference action including two wins over Iowa State and a victory over consistent NCAA Tournament participant Northern Iowa.
- Jill Pressly earned All-BIG EAST Freshman Team honors after leading the team in kills (115) and second on the squad in digs (89). Pressly's accolade marked the first DePaul freshman to receive a BIG EAST postseason honor since joining the conference in 2005.
