Antonijeiv/ Kizelbasheva earn win to advance
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The DePaul women's tennis team continued competition at the ITA Midwest Regionals on Friday.
The Blue Demons began the day with matchups in the doubles main draw. Greta Carbone and Hannah Smith were the first DePaul pair to compete, earning a win over Western Michigan's duo of Hamilton and Perkucin. Carbone and Smith fell in their second matchup of the day to Bereznyak and Bhan from Ohio State.Â
Mayya Perova and Maddie Yergler went to work against Bowling Green's Tsadari and Saraty. Perova and Yergler fell in their matchup 8-2.Â
Eleanor Nobbs and Valentina Martin teamed up for their doubles matchup but were unable to defeat Cerdan and Kelly from Michigan.Â
Lenka Antonijevic and Yuliya Kizelbasheva received a bye for the first round of the tournament, and were able to defeat Minich and Stanmore from Youngstown State to move on to the following round that begins Saturday morning at 7 a.m. CT. Antonijevic and Kizelbasheva will take on Ch. Hand and Leon from Northwestern.
The afternoon consisted of the singles main draw. Yuliya Kizelbasheva won her first match in straight sets against Notre Dame's Maria Olivia Castedo. Valentina Martin lost her match to Michigan's Nicole Hammond.Â
UP NEXT: The doubles main draw round of 16 will begin Saturday at 8 a.m. CT. The singles round of 32 and 16 will follow.Â
