Blue Demons Dominate in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – DePaul men's tennis dominated the first two days of competition at the annual Notre Dame Invitational.

The Blue Demons kicked off day one with the first round of doubles at 8 a.m. CT. Leon Huck and Matteo Iaquinto paired up to take on Notre Dame's Che and Fu. DePaul dropped the set 6-3.

After the first round of doubles the pair broke off to play singles against their opponents. Che defeated Huck in two sets, 7-6, 6-4 and Fu conquered Iaquinto 6-1, 6-3.

Aleksa Krivokapic and Marino Jakic competed against IU's Landou and Kumar for their first round of doubles. The pair fell 6-3. In their singles matches Kumar claimed a win against Krivokapic in a hard fought three sets 3-6, 7-6(3), 1-0(8). Jakic was defeated by Kumar 7-5.

The men concluded day one with a second round of doubles matches. Huck and Iaquinto defeated Illinois' Boulier and Meier in a tiebreaker 7-6(1).

DePaul started off day two of the Fighting Irish Mini Duals with a second round of singles matches at 8 a.m. CT.

The Blue Demons claimed their first victory of the tournament over Illinois after Iaquinto conquered Bowers in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (9).

In round three of doubles Iaquinto and Huck faced off against MSU's Matsuno and Pero. The pair lost their doubles match 6-3 but clinched a 2-1 win over MSU after Krivokapic and Huck defeated their opponents in singles.

Tomorrow the Blue Demons will play in the fourth and final round of the tournament starting at 8 a.m. CT.
