
Blue Demons Drop Five-Set Match at Butler

Krasowski totals season-high 36 digs, Pressly notches 13th double-double in setback
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – DePaul dropped its second five-set match in as many games with a 3-2 setback at Butler on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Demons claimed the first and third sets before Butler forced a deciding fifth set in which the Bulldogs never relinquished the lead. With the loss, DePaul falls to 7-17 on the season and 3-9 in BIG EAST play.Â

Rachel Krasowski had a season-high 36 digs on the afternoon while junior outside hitter Jill Pressly recorded her 13th double-double of the season when she tallied 18 kills to go along with 18 digs. Aly Kindelberger followed behind with 14 kills, while Bailey Nelson chipped in 12 kills and four digs.

Ashley Cudiamat led the Blue Demons in assists, totaling 33 on the afternoon. Maggie Jones added 17 assists of her own.Â

Destiny Cherry led Butler (12-12, 6-6 BIG EAST) with 17 kills while Mariah Grunze added 16.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
Set One: A six-point run allowed the Blue Demons to take a 14-7 advantage and force a Butler timeout. Butler rattled off five of the next six points to come within four but a Sara Griffith and Nelson block on the right side pushed DePaul's lead to 19-13. Kindelberger's fourth kill of the set handed DePaul set point before Pressly terminated for the eighth time in the first frame to clinch the set 25-21.Â

Set Two: Bailey Nelson's solo block put DePaul in front 15-11 before the Bulldogs responded with a four-point run to even the score at 15. Butler claimed a 17-16 lead on a Destiny Cherry kill and never looked back en route to a 25-20 set two victory to even the match at 1-1.Â

Set Three: Butler embarked on a six-point run to take a 16-13 lead before the Blue Demons responded with a 6-2 run of their own to reclaim a 22-21 lead and force a Butler timeout. Kills from Pressly and Griffith set the table for set point before Kindelberger put a ball away and sealed the 25-23 set three victory,Â

Set Four: The Bulldogs forged ahead to a 19-8 lead on a nine-point run, which ended on a kill from Kindelberger. DePaul was able to cut the deficit to eight behind Krasowski's serving rally, but Butler's momentum led them to the 25-16 victory.

Set Five: The Bulldogs earnied four of the first five points, but the Blue Demons were able to keep the match close after a kill from Pressly and a Butler attack error. DePaul found themselves down 11-10 after a kill by Nelson. The teams battled back and forth, but Butler was able to close it out and get the 15-13 win to take the match.

Up Next: The Blue Demons will return home to play four of their last six regular season matches at McGrath-Phillips Arena. Villanova and Georgetown are scheduled to visit Lincoln Park Nov. 4-5 before DePaul embarks on their final East Coast road swing of the season with a trip to Connecticut and Providence Nov.12-13.
