DePaul Sweeps Villanova Behind Potent Offensive Attack

Blue Demons hit .364 behind strong outings from Pressly, Nelson
CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball jumped back into the win column with a resounding three-set sweep of Villanova on Friday night at McGrath-Phillips Arena.

Set scores of the match were: 25-22, 25-19, 25-20.

The Blue Demons totaled 52 kills on the outing, a season-high in three set matches, while hitting at a .364 clip.
Â
Jill Pressly recorded a match-high 19 kills while hitting .357 to go along with five digs and a pair of service aces. Through 25 matches in 2022, Pressly has tallied double digit kills on 19 occasions.Â

Bailey Nelson put down 14 kills, including the last three of the match, and hit at a formidable .478 mark while Aly Kindelberger and Taylor Underwood chipped in seven kills apiece.

DePaul (8-17, 4-9 BIG EAST) saw a total team effort on the defensive end with five Blue Demons notching five or more digs including eight apiece from libero Rachel Krasowski and setter Maggie Jones while Julia Nagy and Phoenix Lee added six and five digs, respectively.

Jones dished out 38 helpers, a season-best in three sets, while putting down four kills.

Villanova (7-18, 3-10) was led by 10 kills from Kiera Booth.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One: The Blue Demons put together five-consecutive points with Kindelberger behind the service line to take the 7-5. The squads traded points before a Wildcats setting error put DePaul in front 18-15. Villanova took a 20-19 lead with a 5-1 run but DePaul answered with a 6-2 spurt of their own capped by back-to-back blocks to claim the first set.

Set Two: Three-consecutive kills from Pressly pushed DePaul in front 16-9 to force a Villanova timeout. Nelson hammered a ball on the right side before Nagy dropped in a service ace to put the Blue Demons in control 23-15. The Wildcats showed life, staving off three set points, before Pressly put down her 15th kill of the match allowing DePaul to take a commanding 2-0 lead.

Set Three: Villanova jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the third frame, but a five-point run with Pressly behind the service line allowed DePaul to claim the lead. A kill from Underwood and three-consecutive errors from Villanova put the Blue Demons in the driver's seat. Three-consecutive kills from Nelson on the right side capped off the set 25-20 and clinched the match for the Blue Demons.
