
DePaul Falls to Providence in Road Finale

Pressly records 15th double-double, Nelson tallies career-high 19 kills
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – DePaul volleyball dropped its final road match of the season, 3-1, to Providence on Sunday afternoon. Jill Pressly notched her fifth 20-kill match of the 2022 campaign while Bailey Nelson recorded a career-high 19 kills in the setback.
Set scores of the match were: 21-25, 25-27, 25-22, 17-25.
Pressly tallied her 15th double-double of the season with 13 digs to go along with 20 kills at a .318 clip. Nelson's career-best 19 kills came at a .300 attack percentage alongside three digs and a block.
Maggie Jones matcher her career-high with 50 assists while adding five digs, four blocks and three kills. Libero Rachel Krasowski collected 27 digs and has a career-best 545 on the season.
Four Friars finished in double figures led by 14 from Brielle Mullally.
Set One: Providence (12-16, 4-12 BIG EAST) opened a 6-1 advantage at the start of the first set. Back-to-back kills from Nelson followed by an ace from Phoenix Lee gave the Blue Demons their first lead of the day, 13-12. A four-point spurt for the Friars allowed the hosts to reclaim the lead, 17-15. Three-consecutive attack errors for DePaul allowed Providence to earn set point, but the Blue Demons fended off three to force a PC timeout. Out of the break, the Friars earned the set 25-21.
Set Two: A three-point run by the Blue Demons capped by a Griffith and Jones block to even the score at 13. Pressly and Nelson recorded their 10th kill apiece to widen DePaul's advantage to 20-18 in the latter stages of the second. Providence used a 6-2 run to arrive at set point. An Underwood kill followed by a Jones and Oxley block staved off a pair of set points, but PC would go on to claim the second set 27-25 and take a 2-0 advantage on the match.
Set Three: Katelynn Oxley solo stuff put the Blue Demons in front 12-10 in the third. A three-point run pushed DePaul to a 18-15 advantage. Providence pulled within one a 23-22, but the back-to-back attack errors from the Friars earned the set three victory for DePaul and forced a set four.
Set Four: Providence took an 18-10 lead in the fourth set on their eighth service ace of the match DePaul cut the deficit to five, 22-17, before Providence closed out the set on a three-point run and took the match 3-1.
Up Next: DePaul (9-19, 5-11) will return home for its final home matches of the 2022 campaign when Creighton and Xavier visit McGrath-Phillips Arena, Nov. 18-19. Friday's match against nationally ranked Creighton will serve as a Title IX match while Saturday is Senior Day to honor DePaul's graduating senior, Bailey Nelson.
