DePaul set for its first games in Bahamas
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – DePaul men's basketball tips off the Baha Mar Bahamas Championships Friday evening against Santa Clara from Nassau, Bahamas. The game is slated for 8:30 p.m. CT and fans can watch on CBS Sports Network with Chris Sylvester and Kyle Macy on the call. Radio broadcast will be available online at DePaulBlueDemons.com.
DePaul's next matchup in the Baha Mar Bahamas Championship will be against either Oklahoma State or UCF Sunday evening. The consolation game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. CT and the Championship game at 6 p.m. CT.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
DePaul enters the Baha Mar Championships with a 3-0 record for the second-straight season following a 16-point road win against Minnesota on Monday. The Blue Demons showed their capability as a complete team which included four-players in double-digit scoring for the second time this season.
Javan Johnson continues to lead DePaul, putting up 20 points and eight rebounds against the Gophers. Johnson and Umoja Gibson currently rank 1-2 in the BIG EAST in three-point percentage and are both in the top-10 scoring in the conference. Gibson has proven to be an experienced leader at the point guard spot for DePaul, ranking 10th nationally with 22 assists this season.
THE SERIES
The two programs are set to meet for the first time in over 40 years, with the last matchup coming Dec. 12, 1981 in Santa Clara, Calif. DePaul is 3-2 all-time against the Broncos and Friday will be the first ever neutral site meeting for the programs.
SCOUTING SANTA CLARA
Santa Clara is coming off their first loss of the season which came at the hands of Utah State on Monday. The Broncos dropped the game on the road, 96-74. Santa Clara lost a total of eight players from their team that went 21-12 a year ago and made the NIT.
Illinois transfer, Brandin Podziemski is the leading scorer for Santa Clara averaging 25.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. As a team, the Broncos rank 52nd nationally with 43.33 boards per game and are top-25 in defensive boards.
