The Blue Demons host Samford Wednesday for first matchup in program history
CHICAGO – DePaul men's basketball looks to get back on track Wednesday evening at Wintrust Arena as the Blue Demons host Samford for an 8 p.m. tip. The game serves as the first all-time meeting between the two programs and will be broadcast on FS2 with Eric Collins and Dickey Simpkins on the call.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
Eral Penn highlighted the Blue Demons performance last week against Texas A&M, notching his fourth-consecutive game of 10 or more rebounds. The graduate transfer is nearly averaging a double-double on the season with 13.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
DePaul (3-3) has been led by the trio of Umoja Gibson, Javan Johnson and Penn. Gibson is averaging a team-best 16.3 points and 7.0 assists per game. His 7.0 assists per game rank second in the BIG EAST and eighth nationally. As a team, DePaul is 3-0 this season when winning the rebounding margin.
SCOUTING SAMFORD
Samford (6-2) enters Wednesday's game following a pair of close loses, both by one score. The Bulldogs came back from a 17-point deficit against Louisiana Tech before falling, 79-76. Samford was then defeated by a Tennessee Southern team who shot 53.6 percent in the second half to win, 84-82.
Wednesday marks Samford's second true road game of the season and opens a five-game road stretch. Samford is led by third year head coach Bucky McMillan who helped the Bulldogs to a 21-11 record last season.
