DePaul hits season-best .476 to complete the weekend sweep

CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball polished off a 2-0 weekend with a dominant three-set win over Georgetown on Saturday night. The Blue Demons hit a staggering.476 while limiting the Hoyas to just 20 kills at a .051 clip to improve to 9-17 on the season and 5-9 in BIG EAST play.

Set scores of the match were: 25-14, 25-11, 25-7

Jill Pressly and Bailey Nelson were terrific once again leading the way offensively for the Blue Demons. Pressly totaled 18 kills to just one error to hit a formidable .654 while adding eight digs and a service ace. Nelson put down 10 kills (.421) to go along with five blocks.

Freshman pin hitter Taylor Underwood added eight kills at a .615 clip while Sara Griffith and Katelynn Oxley added five and four kills, respectively. Griffith played both sides of the net well, putting up a match-high six blocks.

Setter Maggie Jones dished out 34 assists and picked up 12 digs for her ninth double-double of the 2022 campaign. Rachel Krasowski notched a match-high 13 digs to lead the back row.

Georgetown (4-21, 2-12) saw Peyton Wilhite earn a team-high 7 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One: Griffith and Jones tallied DePaul's second block of the first set to put the Blue Demons in control 9-3 in the early going. Three kills from Underwood in four points pushed the lead to 17-6, before DePaul went on to close out the set 25-14. The Blue Demons hit .484 in the first set with 18 kills to just three errors.

Set Two: The Blue Demons ran out to a 11-1 lead in the second set to force the Hoyas to burn both timeouts. Jones picked up her second kill of the match to widen the advantage to 20-7. DePaul closed out the second set on a three-point run with Griffith claiming the set, 25-11, on a successful slide to the right pin. The second set saw the Blue Demons remain low error, hitting .464, while stifling Georgetown to a .083 clip.

Set Three: After dropping the first two points of the third set, DePaul bounced back with a 10-point run with Underwood behind the service line to take a commanding 10-2 lead and never look back. The Blue Demons allowed the Hoyas to earn just five more points for the remainder of the set, closing out the match on a 15-5 run. Â
