
DePaul Overpowers American 96-45 in Season-Opening Win

Four Blue Demons finish in double-figures while DePaul defense forced 31 turnovers
CHICAGO – DePaul led from start to finish in a 96-45 season-opening victory over American on Wednesday night at Wintrust Arena.
Eight Blue Demons tallied at least a bucket in the wire-to-wire win while four totaled double figures led by 24 points, eight rebounds and six steals from sophomore forward Aneesah Morrow.
Darrione Rogers poured in 18 points with Anaya Peoples notching a double-double in her DePaul debut with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Keke Rimmer matched her career-high with 13 points while setting a career-standard with nine boards.
As a team, DePaul out-rebounded American 50-28 with the defensive pressure forcing 31 turnovers and allowing the Blue Demons to collect 23 steals.
DePaul (1-0) ran out to a 10-2 run two and a half minutes into the game behind six early points from Morrow. A 10-0 run over a four-minute span expanded the Blue Demons lead to 20-6. Back-to-back layups from Rimmer put DePaul in front 24-8 at the end of the first quarter.
Zaria Hurston netted her first career bucket on a three-point field goal as time expired in the first half to give DePaul their largest lead, 49-22. The Blue Demons shot 57.1 percent from the field through the first 20 minutes, taking a 25-point lead into the locker room.
The Blue Demons outscored the Eagles 25-10 in the third period, behind 20 points combined from Morrow and Rogers to bring a 74-34 advantage into the final period of play.
With DePaul's reserves playing the last eight minutes of the game, the Blue Demons closed out the win to improve to 37-12 all-time in season-openers.
Up Next: DePaul will travel to Northern Illinois on Saturday, Nov. 12 for the second matchup with the Huskies in as many seasons. Tip off from the Convocation Center is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN3.
