
Morrow Shatters Scoring Record as DePaul Takes Down Northwestern 81-63

Sophomore forward breaks DePaul single-game scoring mark with 45 points
EVANSTON, Ill. – Aneesah Morrow scored 45 points to break the program's single-game scoring record as DePaul used an explosive second half to power past local foe Northwestern, 81-63, on Saturday afternoon.

Morrow scored 18 points in the first 20 minutes and followed up with 27 on 72-percent shooting in the second half to record her second 40+ point performance this season while collecting 13 rebounds for her eighth double-double in 10 games.

A free throw with five minutes remaining in the game earned Morrow her 1,000th career point in just her 43rd game. The sophomore became the 13th woman in NCAA Division I history to accomplish the career milestone in 43 games or less.

Darrione Rogers added 18 points to go along with four assists and four rebounds while Kendall Holmes recorded eight points and a career-high seven assists.

As a team, DePaul dished out 21 assists on 29 made field goals in addition to scoring 27 points off 19 Northwestern turnovers.

Northwestern (4-5, 0-1 Big Ten) jumped out to a 7-2 advantage two minutes into the game to force a DePaul timeout. Morrow's fourth field goal of the quarter gave the Blue Demons their first lead of the game, 16-14, as DePaul took a 20-17 advantage after one.

A pair of Rogers free throws put the Blue Demons in front by seven, 24-17, but a 6-0 Wildcats run paired with a three-minute DePaul scoring drought would cut the deficit to just one. Northwestern took a brief lead on a second-chance layup before Rogers poured in a three and Morrow knocked in a late free throw to give the Blue Demons a 34-33 edge after 20 minutes of play.

The Blue Demons came out of the locker room with energy and poised to go on an 11-2 run in the first three minutes to take a 10-point lead, 45-35. Northwestern responded with six unanswered points to come within four, 47-43, before a Rogers three with timing winding down capped a 10-3 run allowing the Blue Demons to take a 59-48 lead into the final period.

DePaul (7-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) never wavered in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 22-15 to secure the seventh-straight victory in the series between the two Chicago-area programs.

Caileigh Walsh and Paige Mott each totaled 10 points to pace Northwestern.
