Second-Half Surge Comes Up Short as DePaul Falls to Louisville 81-67

Blue Demons drop non-conference finale on Wednesday night
CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball cut a 20-point deficit to four midway through the fourth quarter, but the comeback bid came up just short as -/RV DePaul fell to RV/RV Louisville 81-67 in the non-conference finale at Wintrust Arena on Wednesday night.
Three Blue Demons finished in double figures led by 23 points from Darrione Rogers to go along with six assists and four rebounds while Aneesah Morrow tallied 17 points and grabbed five rebounds. Anaya Peoples totaled a season-high 16 points, 12 of which came in the second half, while collecting a team-high eight boards.
The Cardinals utilized a 9-0 run in an 80-second span to claim a 20-9 lead midway through the first quarter. The Blue Demons held Louisville scoreless for a four-minute stretch but trailed 22-14 after 10 minutes of action.
Louisville (10-3, 1-0) shot 60 percent from the field in the second quarter, ballooning their lead to 20 before Rogers connected on a three-point heave as time expired in the first half. The Blue Demons faced a 46-29 deficit heading into halftime.
Rogers led all scorers with 14 first-half points.
The third quarter saw the Cardinals stretch their advantage back to 20 before the Blue Demons chipped away and embarked on a 15-2 run in the latter half of the third quarter with field goals from everyone on the court to head into the fourth quarter trailing by only nine, 58-49.
DePaul (9-4, 2-0 BIG EAST) rode the momentum into the fourth quarter, netting three of the period's first four field goals to come within four on a Peoples three. The Blue Demons would not get any closer as Louisville's Chrislyn Carr and Hailey Van Lith combined for 20 points down the stretch.
Carr led the Cardinals with 21 points and 17 rebounds while Van Lith chipped in 17.

Following a few days off for the holiday break, the Blue Demons will return home for a pair of BIG EAST matchups prior to the turn of the calendar. Providence visits Wintrust Arena on Wednesday, Dec. 28 for a 6 p.m. tipoff before Creighton lands in Chicago for a New Year's Eve meeting on FOX.
