
DePaul Takes on Creighton in Christmas Day Matchup

OMAHA, Neb. – The DePaul men's basketball team takes to the national stage for a Christmas Day matchup against Creighton on Fox Sunday afternoon. The game is slated for a 3:30 p.m. CT tip off with Jason Benetti and Jim Jackson on the broadcast. Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine will have the radio call on WSCR – 670 AM The Score.
The game marks the second all-time for both programs on Christmas Day and the first in BIG EAST history. DePaul's only previous Christmas Day game came in 2014 against Loyola-Marymount.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
DePaul's (6-6, 0-1 BIG EAST) offense runs through Javan Johnson and Umoja Gibson who average a combined 31.7 points per game. Johnson leads the BIG EAST in three-point shooting percentage and is scoring a team-best 16.9 points per game. Johnson also contributes 5.0 rebounds per game and enters Sunday's game 20 points away from eclipsing 1,000 career points.
Gibson ranks top-35 nationally in both steals per game and assists per game. The graduate student leads the BIG EAST in steals, averaging 2.33 per game, and is fourth with 5.3 assists.
The Blue Demons are one of the nation's best free throw shooting teams with a 79.4 free throw percentage and rely on making it to the line. DePaul has averaged 18 trips to the line per game this season and is led by Gibson's 90.4 free throw percentage.
THE SERIES
Creighton (7-6, 1-1 BIG EAST) leads the all-time series, 26-16, including the last 16 meetings. DePaul's last win against the Blue Jays came in Omaha in 2015 where DePaul won 70-60. Creighton is 11-6 all-time against the Blue Demons at home and took both meetings against DePaul last season.
The two teams are scheduled to meet once again this season on March 4, the last regular-season game of the season.

Creighton halted its six-game skid Thursday with a 78-56 win against Butler. The Blue Jays saw the return of Ryan Kalkbrenner who scored 19 points and four rebounds. Kalkbrenner currently leads the nation with a 77.5 field goal percentage and is averaging 16.2 points per game.
The Blue Jays rank second in the BIG EAST in three-point attempts per game and are seventh in three-point percentage. Ryan Nembhard leads Creighton at the point guard position, averaging 5.8 assists per game which ranks third in the BIG EAST ahead of DePaul's Gibson.
