
DePaul Falls Short Against No. 21 Creighton

Morrow records 33 points and 10 rebounds in 92-82 setback
CHICAGO – In a game of runs on the final day of the calendar year, DePaul came up just short to No. 21 Creighton in a 92-82 decision at Wintrust Arena. After trailing by eight at halftime, the Blue Demons outscored the Bluejays 31-16 in the third quarter to take a seven-point lead into the final 10 minutes of action but couldn't close it out to fall to 10-5 on the year and 3-1 in BIG EAST play.
Aneesah Morrow totaled a game-high 33 points while collecting 10 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season and 38th of her career. Morrow also grabbed five steals.
Junior guards Kendall Holmes and Darrione Rogers added 15 points apiece. Rogers dished out eight assists while Holmes connected from downtown on five of six attempts.
Anaya Peoples contributed 13 points, five rebounds and three assists.
The Bluejays made six of their first nine field goal attempts to jump out to a 16-6 lead at the first media timeout of the game. An 11-0 run by the Blue Demons in a near 90s second span brought them within two 19-17. After 10 minutes of action, DePaul trailed by four 23-19.
An early flurry of triples from Creighton stretched DePaul's deficit early in the second quarter, forcing the Blue Demons to call timeout. The Bluejays went on to widen their lead to 14, before DePaul responded with a 7-0 run to close the quarter behind baskets from Holmes, Peoples and Morrow.
Heading into the locker room, DePaul trailed 49-41 with Morrow recording a team-best 11 points to go with four rebounds.
Morrow went on a personal 10-0 run to open the second half and knot the score at 51 before the Blue Demons took their first lead of the game, 63-60, on a Holmes three from the left wing with just under four minutes to play in the third. A pair of free throws from Rogers followed by Holmes' fifth three gave DePaul a 72-65 advantage heading into the final period.
Creighton (9-4, 3-2 BIG EAST) opened the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run of their own to even the score at 72 with seven minutes to play. The Bluejays reclaimed the lead with just under six minutes in the quarter before a Rogers floater put DePaul back in front, 81-80. The Blue Demons were held scoreless for the final three and a half minutes of the game as Creighton pulled away to earn the victory.
Five Bluejays finished in double figures led by 22 from Emma Ronsiek and 21 from Lauren Jensen.
