DePaul Wins Fifth in a Row, Takes Down Georgetown 10-2 in Six Innings

Blue Demons and Hoyas face off for game two on Saturday afternoon
CHICAGO — DePaul extended its win streak to five games after a 10-2 win over Georgetown in game one of Saturday's BIG EAST doubleheader at Cacciatore Stadium.
The Blue Demons claimed their seventh-straight conference victory in the six-inning triumph and improved to 10-6 in league play and 22-19 overall. Brooke Johnson busted the game open with her 12th home run of the season, a grand slam, to move her season RBI tally to 41.
Senior Kate Polucha went 3-for-4 on the day including a solo home run, her fifth of the season while Nicole Sullivan drove in two runs on a double and a bases-loaded walk. Freshman Carly Alvers went 2-for-3 including an RBI-double to hand DePaul the lead for the first time.
Erin Hocker went the distance, surrendering four hits and a pair of earned runs while striking out four batters. The senior pitcher evened her season record to 7-7 in the circle.
Georgetown took a 2-0 advantage right out of the gates with a two-run home run over the left field fence in the top of the second before the Blue Demons clawed back within a run in the bottom of the second on a solo shot to center field from Polucha.
DePaul tied it up in the bottom of the third on an Anna Wohlers sacrifice fly to left field to score Maranda Gutierrez before an Alvers RBI-double began a five-run fourth inning capped by Johnson's grand slam to make it a 7-2 ball game.
The Blue Demons scored three more times, twice in the fifth inning and once in the sixth inning, to claim the run-rule victory, 10-2.
The two squads will face off in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at approximately 1:30 p.m. before meeting once again for the series finale on Sunday, April 24 at 12 p.m. CT.
