Blue Demons open road trip with 6-1 BIG EAST victory at Seton Hall
NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J. – Right from the start Friday, DePaul was in charge.
The Blue Demons swept all three doubles matches en route to a 6-1 BIG EAST triumph over Seton Hall at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness.
Coach Marisa Arce's team improved to 7-6, 4-1 against conference opponents.
Lenka Antonijevic and Yuliya Kizelbasheva, Hristina Djokic and Marija Jovicic plus Valentina Martin and Eleanor Nobbs dominated the doubles court outpointing the Pirates by a combined score of 18-5.
They rode that early momentum and never looked back, winning five of six singles matches.
Kizelbasheva upended Arina Gumerova 6-4, 7-6 (14-12) at No 1 singles while No. 2 Jovicic took down Aina Plana Ventosa 6-3, 6-4.
Nobbs defeated Hiba El Khalifi 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and her doubles partner Martin dispatched Oliwia Kempinski by a score of 6-1, 6-3.
At No. 6, Maddie Yergler defeated Emily O'Donovan 7-5, 6-2.
Nobbs is now 15-9 overall, 8-5 in the dual-match season and 5-0 in BIG EAST play. Martin is 4-1 against conference foes while Jovicic is 3-1.
In doubles, Antonijevic and Kizelbasheva are 15-7 on the season, 6-3 in duals and 3-0 versus BIG EAST tandems. Djokic and Jovicic are 6-3 in duals and also 3-0 in conference matches.
The Blue Demons make the short trip to New York for a Sunday showdown against a potent St. John's team that is 14-5 with a nine-match winning streak.
