DePaul held scoreless in last non-conference matchup
CHICAGO -Â DePaul men's soccer suffered only their second loss of the 2022 season in a matchup with Penn on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Demons (3-2-3) took eight shots, with three being on goal but the Quakers (5-1-1) were able to hold them scoreless to earn a 3-0 victory.
DePaul began the match with a good defensive look as they blocked Penn's first shot attempt. Jack Richards took the first shot for the Blue Demons, but missed wide left.Â
Both teams traded shots and possession until Penn struck first in the 31st minute. Michael Hewes scored his fifth goal of the season, putting the Quakers up 1-0 at halftime.
The second half began with good looks by both Kristian Malinich and Omar Ramadan, but the Quakers found the back of the net when Ben Stitz notched his third goal of the season in the 57th minute.
The Quakers were quick to get back on offense, scoring their third and final goal of the match in the 61st minute when Stitz connected for the second time.
The Blue Demons looked to score in the final moments of the game with a strong offensive push, but were unable to connect.
UP NEXT: DePaul opens up conference play at Wish Field on Saturday, Oct. 1. The match against the Friars will serve as alumni day, as well as faculty and staff appreciation day. First touch is set for 1 p.m.
