
Volleyball Hosts Providence, UConn for Pair of BIG EAST Matches

Blue Demons look to claim first BIG EAST victory of the season
CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball returns to action Sept. 30 – Oct. 1 when Providence and Connecticut visit McGrath-Phillips Arena for a pair of BIG EAST matches. Friday's first serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. with Saturday's match beginning at 6 p.m.
Both matches will stream on FloSports with a subscription required while live stats will be available on StatBroadcast.
DePaul (4-10, 0-2 BIG EAST) is looking for its first conference victory of the season after dropping a pair of matches in the first week of league play to nationally ranked Marquette and Butler. Providence and UConn also enter the weekend winless in BIG EAST matches after suffering setbacks to St. John's and Seton Hall a weekend ago.
Scouting the Friars: The Blue Demons will look to continue their winning ways against the Friars and extend their win streak in the series to five matches. DePaul holds the all-time series 11-5 including a pair of victories a season ago. The Friars are 8-6 after closing out non-conference action 8-4. Kayla Grant has proved to be a lethal threat in the middle with a blistering .386 attacking percentage to go along with 111 kills on the season. Emma Nelson leads the Friars in kills with 2.73 per set while Mackenzie Taylor leads the defensive effort with 5.04 digs per set. Head coach Margot Royer-Johnson is in her 22nd season as head coach for Providence.
Scouting the Huskies: DePaul will look to earn their first win in program history against the Huskies on Saturday evening. UConn holds a 9-0 advantage over the Blue Demons including a pair of three-set victories in 2021. UConn enters the weekend 6-7 after going 6-5 in non-conference play. Caylee Parker leads the attack for the Huskies averaging 3.06 kills per set while Jasmine Davis has totaled 143 kills in 50 sets of action. Madi Whitmore orchestrates the UConn offense with 9.28 assists per set. Ellen Herman-Kimball is in her fourth season leading UConn.
Up Next: Following this weekend's action, DePaul will hit the road for a four-match road swing to face Seton Hall and St. John's Oct. 7-8 before traveling to Xavier and Creighton Oct. 14-16.
