Set One: Underwood's kill from the right side gave the Blue Demons an early 5-2 edge. The Blue Demons used a 7-0 run to extend the lead to 13-5. DePaul would go on to claim the set handily, 25-14. DePaul hit a blistering .382 in the first set while holding the Friars to a .000 attack percentage.
Set Two: The Blue Demons opened the second set on a tear, running out to a 9-0 run with Sierra Ellison behind the service line. The Friars utilized a three-point run to come within five with the Blue Demons still in front, 13-8. Set Three: A sluggish start to the third set for the Blue Demons saw Providence take an early 11-7 lead and never let up. DePaul's ball control trouble allowed PC to extend their lead to 21-10. Providence took a 14-12 lead before the Blue Demons pushed back with a 5-0 run capped by an Underwood shot down the line to jump back in front, 19-16. A trio of Friars attack errors and a pair of Pressly kills gave DePaul the set, 25-22, and the match 3-1.
From Head Coach Marie Zidek: Really proud of the team effort tonight. We had contributions from multiple players at multiple moments in the match. That is going to be great for us in the long run. Congrats to Rachel on breaking the 1000 dig mark, and it came versus a Providence team that doesn't hit the same shot twice in a row. Hard earned. The offense came ready to roll this evening. Taylor, Jill, Aly all had numbers that really made it hard for the opponent to dial in on who to defend. We also had great contributions from the service line, specifically with Sierra Ellison on 26 service attempts with 3 aces. We continue to be a win by committee team, and we will have our hands full with a hot UConn team tomorrow.
Up Next: The Blue Demons will close out the BIG EAST homestand with a match against UConn on Saturday, Oct. 1. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. with coverage on FloSports.
