Women’s Tennis Wraps Up NIU Invite

Blue Demons perform well in doubles matchups
DEKALB, Ill. - The DePaul women's tennis team completed their first play in 2023 at the NIU Invite this past weekend. The Blue Demons competed against Montana State, Iowa, Marshall and Northern Illinois in singles and doubles competition as a final "tune-up" before the dual season begins.
On Saturday, Lenka Antonijevic and Yuliya Kizelbasheva continued their doubles success with a 6-4 win over NIU's Horne and Righi. Antonijevic and Kizelbasheva rallied to earn a win over MSU's Lerman and Heinzova to win the Red Draw.
Greta Carbone and Hannah Smith earned another doubles win over NIU's Dimitriev and Rakita. Maddie Yergler and Valentina Martin followed up with a win over Miroslavova Ninova and Welch from NIU.
Eleanor Nobbs and Iowa's Mannix split sets, but Nobbs was able to notch a win. Greta Carbone also earned a win in singles play when she defeated NIU's Welch. Antonijevic, Smith and Yergler were able to pick up wins in their respective singles draws.
On Monday, Maddie Yergler picked up a singles win against MSU's Chen, 5-3, 4-2. Yuliya Kizelbasheva was also able to earn a win over Heinzova from MSU. The two split sets, but Kizelbasheva earned the decisive third set 11-9.
UP NEXT: The Blue Demons will begin dual season when they travel to Beaumont, Texas to take on Lamar on Friday, Jan. 20. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. CT.
