DePaul plays first matchup against Lamar on Friday
CHICAGO - DePaul women's tennis dual season starts this weekend with a trip to Texas.
The Blue Demons will kick off the 2023 spring season with a matchup against the Lamar Cardinals on Friday, Jan. 20. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. CT and will take place at the Thomas Family Tennis Center on Lamar's campus.
The Cardinals went 10-11 last season, earning wins against Alcorn State and Stephen F. Austin.
The squad will then head to Denton, Texas where they will take on North Texas on Sunday, Jan. 22. The matchup against the Mean Green will begin at 12 p.m. CT at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
The Mean Green have started their spring season 2-0, picking up wins against Miami (OH) and St. John's. In 2022, UNT went 10-12 during the spring season.
To wrap up the trip, the Blue Demons will head to Waco, Texas to take on the Baylor Bears. The match will be played at the Hurd Tennis Center at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23. Baylor is receiving votes in this week's ITA poll.
The Bears made their 23rd NCAA Tournament appearance in 2022 after a 16-9 season where they earned wins against then-No. 5 Kansas, Iowa State and TCU.
Three newcomers joined the team in 2022-23, including two transfers and a freshman. Greta Carbone and Mayya Perova head to Lincoln Park from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Hannah Smith joins from Silchester, England. All three made their DePaul debuts during the fall season.
Following their visit to the Lone Star state, the Blue Demons will return to the court on Feb. 3 as they take on Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind.
