Fisher records 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting
CHICAGO – Elijah Fisher had a career night for the Blue Demons, Saturday evening inside Wintrust Arena, against Long Beach State. Fisher scored a game-high 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting, despite a 77-73 loss for DePaul.
DePaul (0-2) totaled four players in double-digit scoring for the second-consecutive game. Caleb Murphy followed Fisher's performance with 14 of his own on 6-of-8 shooting and a team-best seven rebounds. The double-digit scoring was rounded out by Jeremiah Oden and K.T. Raimey with 13 and 10, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In what was truly a tale of two halves, Long Beach State (1-1) went up 8-3 in the first three minutes of the game for a lead they would continue to extend throughout the first 20. Long Beach State held DePaul scoreless for over four and a half minutes, giving The Beach a 33-11 lead. DePaul began to pick up momentum as Fisher started a stretch of six-straight points for the Blue Demons, however, Long Beach State still held a 37-21 lead going into halftime.
Oden fired off a pair of quick three-pointers to open the second half. DePaul's defensive pressure forced Long Beach State into five turnovers while the Blue Demons offense went 5-of-7 to open the period. DePaul continued to cut into LBSU's lead, as a three-point play from Fisher closed the gap to a single-possession, 58-55.
As the clock wound down, Raimey fired off back-to-back threes, keeping DePaul within one point. Long Beach State hit a series of three free throws to end the game, 77-73.
