Nagy records double figure digs for the fifth consecutive match
OMAHA, NEB. - DePaul volleyball fell to No. 17 Creighton in a three-set match on Friday afternoon, 3-0 (15-25, 17-25, 12-25).Â
DePaul (13-12, 6-8 BIG EAST) was led by Jill Pressly with seven kills and 13 digs. Pressly recorded double-figure digs for the seventh-straight match and the 15th time this season. Bailey Nelson and Yagmur Yavuz each chipped in six kills.Â
Julia Nagy paced the defense with 20 digs, marking the fifth consecutive match she has earned double figure digs. Rachel Krasowski and Ashley Cudiamat tallied nine digs each. Â
"Man that was an old fashioned tail kicking," said head coach Marie Zidek. "That is a team with a deep postseason run written all over it. Unfortunately, our offense took a nose dive. Have to get back on the horse Monday in training knowing that we still have a chance to qualify. A unique moment for the team and program to use this and to become a better team inside the volleyball lines. Their pressure today on the attack really brought out the worst in us, and we will look to get back on track and keep moving forward. A lot of lessons learned this season and a lot of opportunities ahead to continue to refine our performance to a more consistent level."
Creighton (20-4, 11-2 BIG EAST) was led by Norah Sis with 16 kills and 14 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE:Â The Bluejays jumped out to an 8-3 lead, but their 4-0 run was ended with a big swing from Klemp. A quick surge by the Blue Demons behind kills from Nelson and Creighton errors put the squad within one. Each side began to trade points, but the Bluejays began to pull away after a 4-1 run. An ace from Cudiamat and a kill from Kindelberger put the Blue Demons within striking distance, but Creighton ran away with the set on a 7-0 run.
SET TWO: DePaul took an early 4-1 lead, but Creighton responded with a run of their own to tie the match at 7-7. The teams traded points throughout much of the set, resulting in eight ties and five lead changes. Two straight errors from the hosts put DePaul within four, but Creighton set out on a 4-0 run to take the set.
SET THREE: Creighton got out to a 10-3 lead, but three straight kills from the Blue Demons put the visitors within four. Pressly hammered home another kill to cut the Creighton lead in half, but the Bluejays took the victory on a kill.Â
