
DePaul Faces Iowa State in BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle

CHICAGO – As the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle returns for the first time since 2019, DePaul men's basketball will host Iowa State, Friday evening for a 7:30 p.m. tip. The game will be broadcast on FS1 with Eric Collins and Dickey Simpkins on the call. Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine will have the radio call on 670 The Score.
Friday serves as part of DePaul's Hall of Fame weekend, as the Blue Demons recognize the 2023 Hall of Fame Class which includes men's basketball great, Sammy Mejia. The six-member class will be recognized at halftime and a limited number of Hall of Fame rally towels will be available for fans.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
DePaul (1-5) looks to kick off the month of December with a fresh slate in the midst of a three-game skid. The Blue Demons posted several season highs last weekend against Northern Illinois, including points scored and rebounds, but was unable to secure the victory.
Against NIU, Da'Sean Nelson scored a season-high 23 points while Elijah Fisher had a all-around complete game that included 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting and a team-high seven rebounds. Chico Carter Jr. manned the point for the Blue Demons with a career-high 10 assists. Carter Jr. ranks in the top-50 nationally and is second in the BIG EAST in assist to turnover ratio, of 3.29.
THE SERIES
DePaul and Iowa State have met only one previous time in program history, 56 years ago. The Blue Demons won the sole meeting, in Chicago, 67-63. DePaul is 59-79 all-time against current Big 12 members.
DePaul played in the most recent BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle in 2019, coming away with a 65-60 overtime win against Texas Tech.
SCOUTING IOWA STATE
Iowa State (5-2) is coming off back-to-back losses to Texas A&M and Virginia Tech, after opening the season 5-0. The Cyclones are among the nation's leaders defensively, holding their opponents to 55.9 points per game which ranks fourth nationally.
Individually, Tamin Lipsey is the Cyclones leading scorer with 15.1 points per game while also ranking top-20 nationally in steals per game and assists. Iowa State is led by T.J. Otzelberger, who is in his third year at the helm of the program, coming off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.
