Blue Demons Visit Providence for Saturday Matinee

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – DePaul women's basketball hits the road for the second-straight weekend with a trip to Providence on tap for Saturday, Feb. 18. Tipoff is slated for 12 p.m. (ET) inside Alumni Hall with Mike Mancuso and Ashley Battle covering the action on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloHoops.
About DePaul
DePaul (14-13, 7-9 BIG EAST) is coming off a 94-89 victory over Seton Hall on Wednesday after falling to the Pirates in South Orange, N.J. just 48 hours prior. In the victory, four Blue Demons finished in double figures for the third time in the last five games led by double-doubles from Aneesah Morrow and Darrione Rogers.
Morrow recorded her 21st double-double of the season with 28 points and 15 rebounds to go with three assists and three steals while Rogers added 26 and 10 behind an 11-for-11 performance from the free-throw line. Kendall Holmes chipped in 15 points including eight in the final period while Anaya Peoples totaled 13 points and a career-best seven assists.
As a team, the Blue Demons outrebounded The Hall 37-30 and shot a season-best 94-percent from the free-throw line.
On the season, DePaul leads the BIG EAST in rebounding with 40.1 per game while ranking 14th nationally in offensive boards with 15.4. The Blue Demons are second in the league in steals a game with 9.2 while also ranking second in scoring at 77.5 points a contest.
About Providence
Providence (13-14, 4-12) enters Saturday's matchup on a four-game losing streak including dropping their last two to Butler and Marquette by a combined two points. Against the Golden Eagles, the Friars posted a 33-19 edge in the second half, but the comeback came up short as Janai Crooms and Grace Efosa led the way with 11 points apiece.
Crooms, the Ohio State and Michigan State transfer, has led Providence all season averaging 11.5 points per game in addition to 7.1 rebounds a contest. Olivia Olsen adds 10.8 points and 6.4 rebounds a game while Efosa has emerged as a key player with 9.5 points a game
The Friars are second in the BIG EAST in defensive rebounds per game at a 27.2 mark while their average of 12 fouls per game is fewest in the nation.
Series Stuff
DePaul owns a 27-4 record against Providence while being the victors in the last 21 meetings. In games played at Alumni Hall the Blue Demons are 11-2.
In the first meeting between the two programs this season, DePaul came away with a 78-69 victory on Dec. 18 at Wintrust Arena. Morrow led the Blue Demons with 29 points and a season-high 19 rebounds while Rogers added 24 points of her own.
