DePaul Hosts Butler Wednesday Evening

CHICAGO – The DePaul men's basketball team returns to Wintrust Arena for a Wednesday night matchup against Butler. The game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. CT tip on FS1. Lisa Byington and Devin Harris are on the broadcast call with Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine have the radio call on WSCR 670 The Score.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
DePaul (9-18, 3-13 BIG EAST) has played three of its last four games on the road, including a Saturday matchup last week against No. 16 Xavier. Umoja Gibson led DePaul in scoring for the 12th game this season with 17 points and five three-pointers.
The Blue Demons have been boosted by Nick Ongenda returning to the lineup for DePaul. In his two games since his return, Ongenda is averaging 8.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.0 blocks. Ongenda posted eight blocks in his debut against St. John's, which tie for the second most by any Division 1 player nationally this season.

Butler leads the all-time series 18-7, including a 78-70 win in Indianapolis earlier this season. DePaul's last win against Butler came in 2020 with a 79-66 win inside Wintrust Arena. The last three meetings between the two teams have been decided by single-digits.

Butler (13-15, 5-12 BIG EAST) is coming off back-to-back losses to Villanova and Georgetown as the Bulldogs sit at 5-12 in the conference. Butler was without starting center Manny Bates against the Hoyas. Bates ranks 19th nationally with a 61.7 field goal percentage and 27th nationally with 1.96 blocks per game.
As a team, the Bulldogs rank 36th nationally and fourth in the BIG EAST with 4.6 blocks per game. Butler matches up defensively against DePaul as the Blue Demons are one of the best three-point shooting teams in the league, while Butler ranks fourth in three-point percentage defense holding opponents to 32.0 percent from deep.
