NEWARK, N.J. – A late surge by the DePaul men's basketball team was not enough to overtake Seton Hall on the road, Sunday afternoon. The Pirates came away with a 69-64 victory, as DePaul moves to 9-15 (3-10 BIG EAST).
Umoja Gibson did all he could, scoring a game-high 21 points on 9-of-18 shooting. He was joined in double-digits by Da'Sean Nelson with 13 and K.T. Raimey who secured his second-straight game with 10 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DePaul came out to a hot start with shut down defense, holding Seton Hall without a field goal for nearly nine minutes. The Blue Demons jumped up 15-2, thanks to eight early points from Nelson. Following a Pirate timeout, Seton Hall quickly flipped the script with a run of its own to take the team's first lead of the game, 18-17.
Despite DePaul making back-to-back field goals to open the second half, Seton Hall outscored DePaul 22-9 at the under-12 media timeout. DePaul used a 7-2 run, including five points by Raimey to pull the game back to pull within 10, 51-41.
Gibson made three key three-pointers late, pulling DePaul as close as five, 62-57. Seton Hall made enough late free throws to secure the win, ending the night 30-of-45 at the line.
