
Anna Wohlers, Brooke Johnson Named to All-BIG EAST First Team

Pair of Blue Demons earn conference recognition for standout 2023 campaign
STORRS, Conn. – DePaul's Anna Wohlers and Brooke Johnson were selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team as announced by the conference office on Tuesday after a vote of the league's nine head coaches. Wohlers collected all-conference honors for the second time in her career while Johnson picked up her third recognition in as many seasons including consecutive nods on the First Team.

One of five unanimous selections to the first team, Wohlers led the Blue Demons in almost every offensive category during conference play. The sophomore started all 24 league games, batting .384 with a team-best 19 RBIs. The Davenport, Iowa native provided the power in the lineup whether leading off or batting cleanup, tallying 14 extra-base hits including six home runs. Her .753 slugging percentage in BIG EAST games ranks third among conference peers. Defensively, Wohlers saw time at both catcher and third base and registered 59 putouts and 24 while committing just one error for a .988 fielding percentage.

Johnson proved to be one of the most respected power hitters in the league once again, batting .371 and reaching base at a .446 clip. The senior totaled the second-most hits on the squad with 26 including seven for an extra-base to drive in 12 runs. Johnson drew 10 walks in league play and crossed the plate on 15 occasions. A steadfast first baseman, Johnson recorded 151 putouts across 24 conference games without a single error.

Villanova's Tess Cites earned Player of the Year honors while Seton Hall's Kelsey Carr claimed Pitcher of the Year. The Pirates' Abby Wingo was selected Defensive Player of the Year with Grace Jenkins out of Connecticut picked Freshman of the Year. Angie Churchill and her Seton Hall staff were voted Coaching Staff of the Year to round out the major awards.

DePaul (17-30, 9-15 BIG EAST) enters the 2023 BIG EAST Tournament as the No. 6 seed after winning five of their last six regular season games to clinch a postseason bid. The Blue Demons will begin tournament play on Wednesday, May 10 against third-seeded Seton Hall with first pitch from Burrill Family Field slated for 2 p.m. CT.
