Local talent lands in Lincoln Park after spending her freshman campaign in Rhode Island
CHICAGO – DePaul softball head coach Tracie Adix-Zins announced the signing of infielder Ava Paganis on Monday, July 17. Paganis, a native of La Grange, Ill., joins the Blue Demons after spending her freshman campaign at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I.
"Ava is a strong, versatile athlete from the Southwest suburbs of Chicago who has made an impression on each program she has played with through travel ball, high school, and college. I'm excited to see how she comes in, works hard, and competes for us each day" said Adix-Zins.
While with the Bulldogs, Paganis appeared in 11 games at shortstop, producing 11 hits and a triple while driving in a run before missing the remainder of the season with an injury.
In her prep career at Lyons Township, Paganis was a two-time team captain and led her team to a regional championship in 2022 before finishing sectional runner up with a 20-4 record on the season. In 2022, Paganis batted .421 and led the team in four offensive categories including hits (32), doubles (12) RBIs (31) and runs (33). As a senior, Paganis earned All-State Second Team honors to go along with All-Conference and All-Area selections.
Paganis played travel ball with Extreme Elite National where her team went 31-8-1 in 2022 en route to a top-16 finish at Alliance Fastpitch Nationals.
"I chose DePaul because of the welcoming and family-like atmosphere of the campus as well as the team and coaching staff. Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, I have been very fortunate to experience the beauty of the city and I cannot wait to be a part of such a great community in Lincoln Park," said Paganis. "I am excited to pursue my Health Science and Physician Assistant career at an incredibly reputable school with great resources for my future. I am most looking forward to bonding with my team and winning in a competitive conference like BIG EAST."
One of five kids, Paganis has strong ties to the softball and baseball community with two relatives who have competed collegiately and two within the Major League Baseball (MLB) system.
Paganis plans to enroll in DePaul's College of Science and Health.
