TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - DePaul women's soccer (0-1) was held off 2-0 by No. 7 Alabama (1-0) on Thursday evening. The Blue Demons fought hard against the Crimson Tide's attack but Alabama's two connections secured its victory.
Alabama started the match off strong, taking the lead within the first five minutes of the game with an early goal. Defenders Lina Dantes, Grace Menser, Ryan Skall and freshman Kristen Schwartz protected DePaul's back line and kept Alabama at bay. However, the Crimson Tide was able to make another break, knocking in a goal before the end of the first half to increase its lead, 2-0.
Regardless of the two goals, starting goalkeeper Elena Milam had a strong game in net, making six saves against Alabama's eight shots on goal. Six freshmen on the Blue Demons made their collegiate debut, including forward Mya Gardner who led the attack against the Crimson Tide.
Despite DePaul's defensive efforts, the Blue Demons were not able to respond and in the end Alabama came out on top.
UP NEXT: DePaul will remain on the road for another southern matchup at Samford on Sunday, Aug. 20, at 1 p.m. CT.
