Blue Demons open fall competition with dynamic duo format at Bowling Green
CHICAGO – DePaul women's tennis is set to open the 2023-24 season with a trip to Bowling Green, Ohio for the Bowling Green Invitational, Sept. 15-17. Action from Keefe Courts is set to get underway at 9 a.m. CT each day.
Joining the Blue Demons for the fall tournament includes Miami (OH), Niagara, Northwestern Ohio, Toledo, Youngstown State, Valparaiso and the host Falcons.
The tournament, conducted in a "dynamic duo" format will see a pair of teammates compete as a duo throughout the weekend. Each pair will play a doubles match, and then individually against the same duo in two singles matches. The team that wins two out of three will advance in the draw. Consolation matches will also be played.
Blue Demon pairs under fifth-year head coach Marisa Arce include Greta Carbone/Hannah Smith, Emily Casati/Yuliya Kizelbasheva and Eleanor Nobbs/Eva Goncharov. Graduate student Mayya Perova is set to compete with a partner from another institution to be determined.
Five letterwinners return from last season's squad that earned the programs first national ranking since 2016. The Blue Demons found themselves ranked No. 67 by the ITA. Kizelbasheva, a 2022-23 First Team All-BIG EAST selection, leads the core group returning after winning 13 matches at No.1 singles in her senior campaign.
Three newcomers joined the squad in the fall of 2023, including transfers Emily Casati (Illinois), and Eva Goncharov (Nova Southeastern) alongside Sasha Stula, a freshman out of Gifu, Japan.
Following the trip to Ohio, the Blue Demons will compete at the Notre Dame Hidden Duals, Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
