Blue Demon pair goes 5-0 in day two
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – DePaul women's tennis closed out day two at the Bowling Green Dynamic Duo on Saturday, highlighted by Blue Demon duo Greta Carbone and Hannah Smith advancing to Sunday's semifinal round.
DePaul saw all four pairs move to the Quarterfinals of the draw after closing out the Round of 16 with singles matches on Saturday morning.
Six of seven Blue Demons competing won at least one singles match on the day with Carbone and Smith posting a combined 5-0 mark to find themselves in position to compete for a fall title on Sunday. The pair is set to meet Cassie Alcala and Gaby Rondon from Toledo in the semifinals.
Eleanor Nobbs used a straight-set 6-3, 6-3 victory over Valparaiso's Sydney Stone to lift her and Eva Goncharov into the quarterfinals after winning the doubles point on Friday evening. The duo eventually fell to Toledo's Cassie Alcala and Gaby Rondon, 3-0.
Graduate student Yuliya Kizelbasheva pushed past Elisa Masarikova of Youngstown State 6-1, 4-6, [10-5] to advance in the draw alongside teammate Emily Casati. The Blue Demon tandem knocked off Valpo duo Moira Elle and Olivia Czerwonka 8-3 to open quarterfinal action before each fell in straight sets in singles action.
Playing alongside Toledo's Jone Ibanez, DePaul graduate student Mayya Perova posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Neo Mafuyeka of Northwestern Ohio before being eliminated by her own teammates, Carbone and Smith.
Semifinal action from Keefe Courts is set to resume at 9 a.m. CT on Sunday morning with the final matches beginning shorty after.
