Second Half Stings DePaul in 4-2 Decision Versus Loyola

Blue Demons return home on Sept. 23 to host Creighton
CHICAGO – CHICAGO – Despite a strong first half with goals from Michael Anderson and Christian Baumgartner, DePaul could not withstand a persistent second-half press from Loyola, falling to the Ramblers 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Wish Field.
In a high-intensity, physical match, DePaul took its chances early beginning with a free kick from just outside the box in the fourth minute that saw Noeh Hernandez hit the near post.
Moments later, a Blue Demons hand ball inside the box provided Loyola a penalty kick opportunity, but Gandhi Cruz came up big, diving to his left to keep the score knotted at zero.
DePaul (1-4-2) broke through on a free kick in the 14th minute, as freshman Jordan Clagette provided service into the box before the ball was headed around from Ethan Gordon to Baumgartner before finding the head of Anderson who buried the ball in the back of the net.
Loyola (5-1-1) responded with a few more chances and evened the score in the 27th minute on a ball crossed through the six and headed past Cruz.
A mere five minute later, the Blue Demons reclaimed the lead as Hernandez provided service on a corner kick that found the head of Marek Gonda before Baumgartner booted it in from the doorstep.
After a red card issued in the 34th minute forced the Blue Demons to play a man down for the remainder of the contest, Loyola found the equalizer once again just before the half to send the teams into the locker room tied, 2-2.
The Ramblers provided pressure from the jump in the second half, converting on a flick from the left side of the box in the 46th minute to claim their first lead of the day, 3-2.
The undermanned Blue Demons couldn't find their flow offensively, registering just two shots in the final 45.
Loyola went on to add another tally in the 84th minute to put the game out of reach.
