
Men’s Soccer Heads East for Friday Night Tilt with Providence

Blue Demons and Friars meet at 6 p.m. CT with coverage on FloFC
CHICAGO – DePaul men's soccer hits the road for a BIG EAST matchup with Providence on Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. CT. All of the action from Chapey Field will be carried on FloFC.
Friday's match will be DePaul's first of three conference matches against an East Region opponent this season as the BIG EAST moved to two divisions in 2023 with the addition of nationally respected Akron as an affiliate member.

Up Next: DePaul will close out the non-conference portion of its schedule on Wed, Oct. 4 when No. 20 UIC visits Wish Field. Kick off is slated for 2 p.m.

Setting the Scene
- The Blue Demons look to earn their first points in conference play after falling to Xavier and Creighton in the conference's opening matches.
- Last time on the pitch, DePaul fell behind by a pair of goals early to the Musketeers, but battled back to make things interesting in the second half as freshman forward Liam Mullins netted his first career goal late in the match. The Blue Demons eventually fell 2-1 but manufactured many chances.
- Redshirt freshman Christian Baumgartner paces DePaul with three points (1G, 1A).
- Five different Blue Demons have found the back of the net in the 2023 campaign.
- Freshman Noeh Hernandez leads the squad with 15 shots, while Mullins ranks second with eight.
- Junior goalkeeper Gandhi Cruz leads the conference in total saves while ranking fifth in the nation with 45.
- PC is 2-4-2 on the season and 0-1-1 in BIG EAST matches.
- The Friars have earned wins over Merrimack and Rhode Island on the 2023 campaign while earning a 3-3 draw against then-No. 3 Akron and falling to Villanova, 4-3, last weekend.
- Brendan McSorley and Pearse O'Brien lead the Friars with eight points apiece through eight matches.
- McSorley has netted four goals on a team-high 21 shots including 10 on frame.
- Goalkeeper Lukas Burns has recorded 23 saves in net, starting all eight matches and playing all 720 minutes.
- Providence was selected to finish second in the East Division in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- Craig Stewart is in his 11th season leading the Friars.
