Carter Jr. Eclipses 1,000 Career Points Friday Night

VILLANOVA, PA. – Chico Carter Jr. eclipsed the 1,000-point career milestone Friday night, as the DePaul men's basketball team fell to Villanova, 94-69. Carter Jr. totaled 14 points on the night, reaching the threshold on a three-pointer in the second half, as he shot 6-of-9 for the game.
Da'Sean Nelson had a team-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting in addition to six rebounds. Nelson and Carter Jr. were joined in double-digits by Jalen Terry who had a season-best performance. Terry scored 12 points and had 2023-24 bests with six assists and five rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Both teams came out shooting hot as DePaul opened the game shooting 4-of-6 and Villanova was 6-for-6, taking an early 11-7 Wildcats lead. A three-pointer by Jeremiah Oden kept it a one-possession game, 18-15, at the under-12 media timeout. Four missed field goal attempts allowed Villanova to go on a 13-3 run, taking a 24-15 lead. Back-to-back assists by K.T. Raimey to Nelson and Terry pulled DePaul right back into it, 24-20. DePaul put together a 7-0 run out of a timeout, staying within two, 29-27, before 'Nova took a 10-point lead into halftime.
Villanova opened the second half on an 8-3 run, solidifying a lead that DePaul wouldn't be able to overcome. Down by as much as 17, DePaul hit 5-of-7 field goals pulling the game back to 14, 67-53. The Blue Demons couldn't contain Villanova's offense as the Wildcats shot 18-of-25 in the second half.
OF NOTE- K.T. Raimey dished out a career-best five assists, three of which came in the first half.
- Both of Nelson's career 20-point conference games have come against Villanova.
- Nelson has scored 10+ points in six straight games, including every BIG EAST game of the season.
- DePaul had its most points on the road against Villanova in regulation since Jan. 6, 2010.
