#17 Bluejays Pull Away from DePaul in Second Half

OMAHA – DePaul men's basketball went toe-to-toe in the first half against No. 17 Creighton, Saturday afternoon, until the Bluejays pulled away in the second half for the 85-62 victory.
DePaul (3-18, 0-9 BIG EAST) was led by Elijah Fisher who registered 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Fisher also added three boards and a pair of assists. Mac Etienne notched a team-best six rebounds, tying his season high.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
DePaul came out hot with a 5-0 lead before the teams quickly began to trade blows. A layup by Jaden Henley kept the game tied at 15 before Creighton (14-5, 5-3 BIG EAST) took a 22-19 lead. Fisher and Churchill Abass quickly responded, flipping the score in favor of DePaul for a 23-21 lead. The Bluejays took its largest lead of the first half, 36-29, going 6-of-8 from the field over a two-minute period. DePaul had a response, holding Creighton scoreless for over two minutes and making it another one-possession game. The Bluejays took back a seven-point lead, before DePaul had the final answer to end the half on back-to-back layups from Fisher and Etienne. Creighton held a 40-37 advantage at half.
After holding the 40-37 advantage at half, Creighton came out quick to open the second period. The Bluejays went 8-of-12 to start the second half, taking a 61-43 lead. The Blue Demons couldn't get their offense moving as Creighton held the strong advantage for the remainder of the game.
OF NOTE
- Abass had a career-high three steals, all of which came in the first half.
- Fisher had his third double-digit scoring performance in the last four games.
- Creighton did not commit a block against DePaul. The first time the Bluejays haven't registered a block since March 17, 2022.
UP NEXT
DePaul returns to Chicago for a pair of home games next week at Wintrust Arena. The Blue Demons will open the week Tuesday, against Seton Hall. The matchup is slated for an 8 p.m. tip on FS1.
