Graduate forward posts career-high 22 points and 10 rebounds in narrow setback
CHICAGO – A 22-point, 10-rebound double-double from Jorie Allen led DePaul in a 75-68 setback to No. 21 Creighton on Saturday afternoon at Wintrust Arena.
Despite forcing the Bluejays into a season-high 18 turnovers, the Blue Demons could not overcome a hot shooting start from the visitors who shot 52-percent from behind the arc in the first half with nine three-pointers on 17 attempts.
Allen's 22 points marked a career-high for the graduate student while her 10 rebounds gave her the third double-double of her career and second on the season. The Bedford, Ind. native scored 11 points in the third quarter alone.
Two more Blue Demons joined Allen in double figures with Michelle Sidor and Anaya Peoples tallying 13 and 10 points, respectively. Peoples also logged eight rebounds, five assists and five steals.
DePaul (9-8, 1-3 BIG EAST) dished out 21 assists on 26 made field goals for its ninth outing of 20+ assists this season while also grabbing double-digit steals for the seventh-consecutive game with 13.
Creighton (11-3, 2-2) saw all five starters finish in double figures led by Lauren Jensen's 17 points.
How it Happened
Allen scored the game's first basket before Creighton scored on their next five possessions to jump in front 13-9. The Bluejays' fourth three of the period pushed their lead to 10 before the Blue Demons cut the deficit down to seven, 26-19, to finish the first quarter.
Kate Clarke's three to start the second quarter narrowed the margin to four before the Bluejays used a 9-1 run to push their lead back up to double digits. DePaul closed the half with seven unanswered points to trail 44-36 heading into the locker room.
A three-point play from Allen brought the Blue Demons back within a pair of possessions with 2:20 remaining in the third quarter, but DePaul would not score again in the period and fell behind 61-54 heading into the final 10 minutes of action.
DePaul started the fourth quarter quiet from the field, sinking just one of their first seven attempts as Creighton's lead ballooned back to 11. A pair of free throws from Allen had the Blue Demons within six with three minutes remaining, but that was about as close as they got as Creighton made eight free throws in the last 90 seconds of the ball game.
Up Next: The Blue Demons will take a week to prepare for the short trip up to No. 19 Marquette on Saturday, Jan. 13. Tipoff on CBS Sports Network is scheduled for 8 p.m. CST.
