DePaul Travels to Queens to Take On St. John’s

CHICAGO – DePaul men's soccer takes its four-match unbeaten streak on the road when it travels to Queens, N.Y. to take on St. John's on Saturday, Oct. 12. Kick off from Belson Stadium is set for 6 p.m. CT

Demon Doings

After a decisive 3-1 victory over Oakland in the non-conference finale DePaul is 5-4-2 on the season including a 1-1-1 record in BIG EAST play.
The Blue Demons have not dropped a match since Sept. 20 and have since picked up wins over Loyola, Creighton and Oakland while battling to a scoreless draw against Xavier.
After the initial RPI rankings released on Sept. 22 had DePaul at No. 92, the Blue Demons have climbed to a season-high No. 80 as of Oct. 10.
DePaul boasts one of the highest scoring offenses in the league and the country, netting 2.09 goals per game which ranks second in the BIG EAST and No. 29 nationally.
Through 11 matches, the Blue Demons have scored 23 goals which is the most since the 2016 squad recorded 28 in 21 matches.
Additionally, DePaul's 23 assists on its 23 goals is top-30 in Division I and second in the league.
The Blue Demons have seen everyone get involved in the offense with 12 unique goal scorers in 2024, the most since the 2013 season (12).
Sophomore midfielder Noeh Hernandez has been involved in over half of the Blue Demon goals on the season with five of his own, three of which were game-winners, to go along with seven assists which both lead the team.
Hernandez's assist total is eighth in the country while his point total (17) is good for 25th, trailing only Akron's Emil Jaaskelainen (28) among conference players.
On the front line, Logan Finnegan and Keagan Pace have notched four and three goals, respectively, while Pace also has five assists to his credit.
Goalkeeper Santiago Davila has started all 11 matches in net, made 43 saves on the season and owns a 1.55 goals against average, his lowest of the season. He is the reigning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week.

St. John's Notes

Entering the weekend, St. John's is 4-5-3 on the season and 2-1 in conference action. On Tuesday, the Red Storm dropped a 1-0 decision to Loyola (Md.) at home despite outshooting the Greyhounds 22-10.
Miguel Diaz and Tyler Morck own a team-best three goals apiece for the Red Storm. Diaz has recorded three assists on the 2024 campaign for a total of nine points.
St. John's averages 14.33 shots per game and have totaled 71 shots on goal this fall which ranks third among BIG EAST programs.
Head coach Dr. David Masur is in his 40th season in Queens and most recently collected his 400th victory with the program.

Series Stuff

The two teams face off for the 19th time on Saturday evening, with the Red Storm leading the series 11-3-4.
Last time the conference foes squared off was Oct. 12, 2022 when the Blue Demons fell 2-1 in Queens. The match was tied at halftime before St. John's scored the game winner in the 65th minute.
DePaul's last victory in the series came in October of 2016, a 1-0 triumph in overtime on the road.
