Smith and Nobbs look forward to singles consolation round
COLUMBUS, OHIO – Blue Demon representatives Eleanor Nobbs and Hannah Smith came up empty on day two of the ITA Midwest Regionals on Saturday, Oct. 11.
Nobbs and Smith both competed in main draw singles beginning at 8:00 a.m. CT at the Auer Tennis Complex. Nobbs was edged in set one 7-5 by Daniella Shved of Eastern Michigan. Rebounding in the second set, Nobbs evened the match after a 7-5 victory of her own to force a decisive tie breaker. Shved pulled away, winning the third set, 6-2 and taking the match.
Smith also played in round one of the singles main draw. Facing Northwestern's Sydney Pratt, the senior was outmatched 6-0, 6-2.
The duo of Smith and Nobbs played in the opening round of the doubles main draw at 1:00 p.m. CT. Matched up against Pratt/Jessel of Northwestern, the Wildcats' pair proved too much, earning a 8-1 victory.
Smith and Nobbs are looking ahead to the singles consolation round starting at 7:00 a.m. CT in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center on Saturday, Oct. 12. Smith battles Amelia Gorman of SIUE while Nobbs faces Ohio State's Shelly Bereznyak.
