Beth Smyth, Elena Milam Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

Smyth earns Offensive Player of the Week, Milam tabbed Goalkeeper of the Week
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer graduate students Beth Smyth and Elena Milam each earned BIG EAST Weekly Awards for their standout performances in the Blue Demons' upset over No. 18 Georgetown on Sunday, Oct. 13, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
DePaul captain Beth Smyth was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her five-year collegiate career, thanks to her game-winning goal in the 57th minute, which sealed DePaul's 1-0 victory. The goal was her first of the season and helped the Blue Demons secure their first ranked win in five years, with the last also coming against Georgetown in 2019.
Milam, meanwhile, earned her second BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honor this season and her fourth weekly award overall. She delivered an impressive seven-save performance, tying her season high for saves in a match, which she previously achieved against NIU on August 15. Milam's effort also resulted in her fifth shutout of the year, stifling one of the top-rated offenses in the country. Georgetown, which ranks second in the league with 30 goals this season, was held scoreless by Milam's stellar outing, which was critical in handing them their first conference loss.
The Blue Demons improved to .500 in BIG EAST play with a 1-1-3 record and extended their unbeaten streak, losing just once in their last eight matches.
With the victory over Georgetown, DePaul earned a pivotal win and continues to build momentum for a strong finish to the season. The Blue Demons are currently tied for fifth in the BIG EAST standings with Villanova and Providence, each with six points.
