Blue Demons Take Care of Business in Exhibition

DePaul led by a pair of 19-point performances
CHICAGO – The DePaul men's basketball team took care of business in its lone preseason exhibition game with a 76-70 win over Illinois Wesleyan, Sunday evening.
All 14 members of the Blue Demons checked in, with 10 registering a field goal. Layden Blocker and Jacob Meyer led DePaul with 19 points apiece. Blocker also added four rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists. Meyer was 4-of-6 from deep and nabbed six rebounds, three steals and three assists.
The duo was joined in double-digits by David Skogman, who tallied 12 points with a game-high nine rebounds and team-best four assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DePaul opened the game to an early 11-10 lead, before quickly firing off six unanswered points to extend the lead. Following a media timeout, David Thomas and Meyer put up back-to-back three-pointers for the Blue Demons first double-digit lead of the game, 23-12. DePaul held onto the lead, taking a ten-point, 43-33, lead into halftime.
The Blue Demons went on an 8-0 run heading into the first timeout of the half, shooting 5-of-9 to extend their lead to 16. DePaul proceeded to hold the Titans to a six-minute scoring drought, while also tallying two three-pointers and forcing seven turnovers in the stretch. JJ Traynor, Chris Riddle and Meyer added three dunks for DePaul to help close out the game.
OF NOTE
The Blue Demons will officially open the Chris Holtmann era on Monday, Nov. 4 against Southern Indiana. The game is set for a 7 p.m. tip from Wintrust Arena with coverage on FS1.
