Blue Demons look to continue strong open to season
CHICAGO – The DePaul men's basketball team looks to continue its strong start to the season as they play host to the 2024 Atlantic 10 Tournament Champions, Duquesne, on Friday, Nov. 15. The Blue Demons have won their first three games of the season by an average of 22 points, including Monday's 31-point victory against Mercer.
The game is slated for an 8 p.m. tip on FS2 with Sloane Martin and Dickey Simpkins on the call. Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine will have the radio call on Sirius XM 985 and DePaulBlueDemons.com.
LAST TIME OUT
On Monday against Mercer, the Blue Demons bench showed its strength with four double-digit scorers coming in as reserves. NJ Benson led all DePaul scorers with a team-high 15 points for the second-straight game. Benson added four rebounds and a block. JJ Traynor notched his first career double-double off the bench with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while CJ Gunn made his season debut with a 13-point performance.
As a team, DePaul notched 21 assists on 34 field goals which was led by a game-best eight assists from redshirt junior Conor Enright. It marked the first time since the 2016-17 season DePaul had back-to-back games with more than 20 assists.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
DePaul (3-0) has made a statement early in the season with his high-tempo pace, three-point shooting and defensive efforts. The Blue Demons rank 32nd nationally in three-pointers made per game with 11.3 while shooting 35.8 percent as a team. At the same time, DePaul has held its opponents to a 22.2 percent mark from three and forced an average of 16 turnovers per game.
Isaiah Rivera remains the Blue Demons leading scorer, averaging 16.7 points per game with a 52.6 three-point percentage clip. Jacob Meyer follows with 16.0 points per game off the bench.
THE OPPONENT
Duquesne (0-2) is led by first year head coach Dru Joyce III, following the retirement of longterm Dukes head coach Keith Dambrot following the 2023-24 season. Joyce III spent two seasons as associate head coach under Dambrot after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Cleveland State.
The Dukes are still in search of their first win of the season following a pair of close losses to Lipscomb and Princeton. Jahsean Corbett, a Chicago State transfer, is Duquesne's leading scorer with 12.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds. The Dukes are a strong blocking team, averaging five per game through their first two games which is led by David Dixon who is averaging 2.0.

DePaul next turns its attention to a pair of in-state opponents in Eastern Illinois and Northern Illinois. The Blue Demons welcome EIU to Wintrust on Tuesday, Nov. 19 for an 8 p.m. tip. The game, sponsored by RUSH, is Healthcare Worker Appreciation Night.
