Blue Demons secure third win of 25 or more points
CHICAGO – Despite a slow start, the DePaul men's basketball team notched its fourth-straight victory Friday night against Duquesne, 84-58. The Blue Demons scored 47 points in the second half on the way to the convincing win to remain undefeated to open the season.
DePaul (4-0) had five scorers in double-digits for the second-consecutive game, this time led by Isaiah Rivera with 18 and David Skogman's 16. Skogman was a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor, all while adding nine rebounds and three assists. Conor Enright tied his personal-best eight assists for the second-straight game, as he now has had more than seven assists in three games this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Duquesne (0-3) came out strong early to quickly grab a 10-2 lead, marking DePaul's largest deficit of the season. The Blue Demons promptly responded with a 7-0 run that included back-to-back baskets by Rivera. Duquesne held onto a five-point, 18-13, lead nearly halfway through the first period until Enright and CJ Gunn knocked in back-to-back three-pointers that gave DePaul a lead they would not relinquish.
After going into halftime up six, DePaul came out strong to open the second half with a 18-6 run. Jacob Meyer had a pair of three-pointers to include in the run as he once again contributed double-digit points off the bench. DePaul held Duquesne without a field goal for the final seven minutes of the game.
OF NOTE
DePaul remains home with a pair of in-state matchups next week, beginning with Eastern Illinois on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The game is slated for an 8 p.m. tip on FS2.
