Three Blue Demons Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

Christian Baumgartner, Liam Mullins, Ryan Thomas honored for athletic and academic accomplishments
CHICAGO – Three members of DePaul men's soccer team were named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honorees on Tuesday as Christian Baumgartner, Liam Mullins and Ryan Thomas were each recognized for their athletic and academic accomplishments.
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District consideration, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average and must compete in 90 percent of the institutions contests or start in at least 66 percent of the matches.
Baumgartner was a stabilizing force on the Blue Demons back line during his second season in Lincoln Park. The redshirt-sophomore started in 15 matches for DePaul, accumulating 1321 minutes on the pitch, the second most for any field player on the squad. The center back bookended his season with a pair of goals, scoring in the season-opener at UIC on August 22 before netting a goal against Butler in the regular season finale. The native of New Lenox, Ill. converted on two of his three shots on target in 2024. The captain aided the Blue Demons to a pair of shutouts this fall. Baumgartner is pursuing a bachelor's of science degree in actuarial science.
Sophomore forward Liam Mullins appeared in all 17 matches for DePaul while making seven starts. Mullins finished fourth on the team in points with 10 while his four assists ranks third. He had a scored the late equalizer in 2-2 draw against Marquette on Oct. 23 before providing a pair of assists in DePaul's 5-3 win over Butler in the regular season finale. Mullins capped off his 2024 campaign with an assist in the BIG EAST Quarterfinal match against then-No. 13 Akron. The Phoenix, Arizona native is enrolled in the Driehaus College of Business with his major still undeclared.
Thomas logged 1144 minutes in his first season with the Blue Demons. The Peterborough, England native was one of just two players to start all 17 games in 2024. A junior primarily playing on the left wing, Thomas tallied an assist against Drake on Sept. 2 and finished the campaign with three shots. He is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Sports Communication.
As a team, DePaul posted a 6-8-3 record in 2024 and returned to the BIG EAST postseason for the first time since 2016.
