Blue Demons Continue Singles Success on Day Two

Scarlet and Blue capture victories in 6 of 8 singles matches
EAST LANSING, MICH. – DePaul women's tennis was triumphant in its singles contests at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday, Nov. 2.
The second day of the Spartan Invite began with two rounds of doubles action starting at 8:00 a.m. CT. The tandem of freshman Isabella Gibson and sophomore Helin Alvarez held a 6-3 edge over Shved/Diaz Zayas (Eastern Michigan) tallying a victory for the second-consecutive day. Senior duo Eleanor Nobbs and Eva Goncharov recorded a 6-4 advantage for the Blue Demons as well.
Singles competition got underway at 12:00 p.m. CT with Gibson and sophomore Roberta Sechi each collecting wins, helping DePaul get off to a quick start. Gibson fought back from a 3-6 defeat in set one, taking the ensuing sets 6-4, 6-2, to win the match. Sechi jumped out in front with a 6-2 advantage after the first set but fell 4-6 in set two. The Sassari, Italy native bounced back, winning the tiebreaker, 6-4.
The Blue Demons continued a strong showing with Goncharov gaining a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Eastern Michigan's Kseniia Saenko.
Sophomore Sasha Stula advanced to the group C final with a 7-5, 6-4 triumph versus Oriana Parkins Godwin (Michigan State).
In a thrilling back-and-forth affair, Nobbs claimed a victory, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. The Scarlet and Blue clinched three wins in tiebreaker sets during the afternoon.
Senior Hannah Smith rounded out the day for DePaul in winning fashion. The 2024 All-BIG EAST First Team selection took the first set, 7-6 by winning the tiebreaker 7-4 and dominated the second set, 6-0 against the Wildcats' Jennifer Riester.
