Three Blue Demons finish in double figures in the setback
GREEN BAY, Wis. – DePaul (2-3) women's basketball fell to Green Bay (3-2) Thursday night by a final score of 70-57 inside the Kress Events Center. The Phoenix opened the game on a 10-0 run and the Blue Demons could not recover, snapping their four-game win streak in the series. Â

Jorie Allen led three Blue Demons in double figures with a game-high 20 points and seven rebounds. Â Â Taylor Johnson-Matthews added 15 points of her own with 13 of those coming in the first half.

Redshirt-junior Meg Newman scored 10 points in the second half to finish with 12 on the outing in addition to her team-best eight rebounds.

DePaul out-rebounded its opponent for the third time this season, grabbing 40 boards to Green Bay's 31. Sophomore guard Sumer Lee collected a career-high seven rebounds of her own.

Green Bay, the reigning Horizon League champions, made the most of their opportunities at the free throw line as DePaul committed 25 fouls which led to 18 makes on 26 attempts from the Phoenix, the most by any opponent this season. Â Â

Senior guard Natalie McNeal led three Green Bay players in double figures with 17 points.

How It Happened
Green Bay started the game with seven unanswered points, connecting on three of their first four field goal attempts, to force an early DePaul timeout. Allen cut the drought with DePaul's first basket with 7:12 remaining in the first. The Blue Demons held the Phoenix without a point for a 3:30 stretch, going on a 6-0 run of their own to pull within three, 14-11. Newman's drive through the lane would be the last field goal of the first period with Green Bay leading 17-13 after 10 minutes.

After Johnson-Matthews opened the second quarter with a triple, the Blue Demons would be held without a point for nearly four minutes as the Phoenix stretched their lead to 25-16. Natiah Nelson provided a spark off the bench, scoring the first points of her collegiate career on an offensive rebound and putback before forcing a steal which turned into a Johnson-Matthews bucket. DePaul trailed 32-28 at the half.

A pair of free throws from Allen followed by a midrange bucket from the forward tied the game at 32 with just a minute gone by in the third. The Phoenix put together a 15-4 spurt over the next four minutes to tie their largest lead of the game at the media timeout, 47-36. The duo of Newman and Allen scored the final three baskets of the third quarter to trim Green Bay's advantage to 12, 54-42, headed into the fourth quarter.
